I’m introducing a gukbap spot in Sinseogwipo that I realized—after I’d already eaten—was actually a legit local favorite.

I stopped by Sinseogwipo because I had some business at the tax office.
Jeju has tons of great restaurants, but if you pick places based only on what you see online, you can easily get fooled by overhyped ads and end up filling up on something disappointing.
And there’s nothing worse than that..
So when I’m grabbing lunch, I usually walk around and choose a place that looks good to me in person.
The spots I pick that way tend to be solid, at the very least.
This place is one of those, too.

For meals, they have sohanmari gukbap, wang galbitang, bomal kalguksu, and sagol kalguksu—and they also do kongguksu (cold soy milk noodles) in summer.
Suyuk (boiled pork/beef slices) feels a bit much for lunch—but it would be great in the evening with a drink.
Rice dishes are 10,000 won–14,000 won, and noodles are 8,000 won–9,000 won.
Prices are pretty much around the Jeju average.
I love bomal kalguksu, so I considered noodles, but that day I was craving something spicy—so I ordered the sohanmari gukbap.

It was near the end of lunch hours, but the dining area was still full, so it was hard to take photos.
As I was about to leave, a table or two finally opened up, so I quickly snapped a shot.

If each person orders one menu item, rice is unlimited refills.
Such a great perk for anyone who needs more than one bowl.

Each table has a jar of napa cabbage kimchi and kkakdugi (cubed radish kimchi).
It’s nice that you can just take as much as you want.

The gukbap bowl is so huge that the rice bowl looks tiny—but it’s actually a normal-sized bowl.
With gukbap, you don’t really need side dishes beyond kimchi, onion, and peppers.
A simple, no-frills spread.

Out of the beef soups I’ve tried recently, this one had the most generous toppings.
There was lots of beef, plus tons of veggies like bean sprouts, napa cabbage, chives, green onion, and mushrooms.
And I love when gukbap includes dangmyeon (glass noodles)—and this one does, too.

The broth is rich, spicy, and clean-tasting.
I love spicy gukbap, and I’m glad I found a place to drop by whenever I’m craving beef soup.
If one dish is this good, chances are the other menu items are, too.
Next time, I’m going to try the bomal kalguksu.

A great Korean restaurant to visit when you’re craving a hearty bowl of gukbap. Their signature dish, Sohanmari Gukbap, features a deep, rich beef bone broth paired with generous portions of beef for a full-bodied flavor. They’re also well known for Jeju’s iconic local specialty, Bomal Kalguksu (hand-cut noodle soup with sea snails). With a cozy atmosphere and clean, satisfying meals, it’s an easy choice for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, and is known as a place locals keep coming back to. Conveniently located near Jeju World Cup Stadium and Seogwipo New Town, it’s an excellent Seogwipo spot for a warm, filling meal during your trip.
