There’s nothing like a springtime oreum to wake up a body that’s been curled up all winter. They’re not overly steep, so you can climb without feeling burdened, and once you reach the top, Jeju’s wide-open scenery unfolds all around you like a reward. From an eastern 대표 oreum you can reach in just 10 minutes, to a ridgeline path that faces the sea, a viewpoint oreum you can drive up most of the way, and even fields where horses roam— we’ve gathered them all for you. A 대표 oreum in eastern Jeju, named for the many medicinal herbs said to grow here. It takes about 10 minutes to reach the summit, and the stairs are well maintained, making it an easy climb. The scenery along the crater rim trail is especially beautiful, and you can take in Hallasan and even Seongsan Ilchulbong in the distance at a glance. There’s very little shade, so it’s best to go on a sunny spring morning.
This spot is all about its coastal walking path that hugs the sea. There are some ups and downs so it’s a nice bit of exercise, but with railings and benches well placed, it’s beginner-friendly too. The views—Sanbangsan, the southern sea of Jeju, and even Hallasan on clear days—are so refreshing they’ll keep stopping you in your tracks.
An oreum that’s convenient to access—you can drive up more than 90% of the way. After parking, it’s only about a 5-minute walk to reach a 360-degree panorama where the sea and fields spread out all at once. Just note that the road up toward the top is narrow (one lane), so drive carefully.
