Sanbang Yeondae

Sanbang Yeondae is a Joseon-era yeondae (signal beacon site) located on a coastal hill in Sagye-ri. It served as a communications facility that relayed military and administrative information using torches and smoke. It is said to have been established in the 19th year of King Sejong’s reign (1437) to prepare for raids by Japanese pirates. Exchanging signals with Dangpo Yeondae to the east and Musu Yeondae to the west, it helped defend the southwestern coast of Jeju. Today, it is designated as a monument of Jeju Special Self-Governing Province and is also known as a scenic lookout where visitors can enjoy beautiful views of Sanbangsan, Yongmeori Coast, and the Sagye Coast. With both historical significance and striking coastal scenery, it is a great place to visit together when traveling to Sanbangsan and Yongmeori Coast.
