Jeju Ocean-View Cafe: Byronic Espresso Bar

I visited a cafe that’s quickly becoming a new hot spot near Jeju Airport.

As you drive along Teuhaean-ro, which continues from Iho Tewoo Beach, this stylish black-and-white building really stands out.

The cafe sits right in front of the sea like a piece of artwork.

A key point here: take a photo with the building at the entrance!

Since it’s close to Jeju Airport, it’s a great place to stop at the start or end of your trip.

With the ocean right in front, you can totally soak up that Jeju vibe~

It’s pet-friendly, and they even have kennels prepared like this by the entrance.

You order at one of the two kiosks.

Even though I visited on a weekday afternoon, it was crowded—so this is a photo I took on my way out.

Is it just me?

When I’m ordering at a kiosk and someone’s waiting behind me, I feel rushed and end up not even looking properly ;;

Thankfully, I’d already checked the menu before coming, so ordering was easier.

The Modakchigi 2-person set!

1 espresso + 1 drink + 1 pudding + butter bar + langue de chat

It’s a set menu where you can try a variety of things.

“Modakchigi” is a Jeju dialect word meaning to gather several items onto one plate—often used at snack shops.

I’ve only seen it used for combos like tteokbokki, gimbap, fried items, jeon, etc., so a dessert modakchigi felt refreshingly new.

You can see the ocean so clearly even from the 1st floor~

When we arrived, it must’ve been the busiest time. Everyone waiting after ordering was seated, so I thought it was a waiting area—but they were just regular tables.

The owner of Byronic Espresso Bar is a famous photographer.

So they have photos of celebrities they’ve taken on display.

The vibe of the photos matches the cafe’s vibe.

All the way up to the 3rd floor is cafe space, so we headed up to the 3rd floor first.

The interior is also black-and-white, just like the exterior.

The ocean-view seats were already taken by lots of people.

The remaining spots were floor seating where you have to take off your shoes, so we passed~

Floor seating can be great if you want to relax for a long time, but that day I really didn’t want to sit with my shoes off ;;

We went down to the 2nd floor, and the view was still an amazing ocean panorama.

But the window seats were already full~ so we gave up on an ocean-view table and sat further inside.

Our Modakchigi 2-person set~

We chose a Classic Con Panna, Kkeomeong Latte, and caramel pudding.

For the con panna topped with sweet cream, they recommend not stirring—take two sips first, then stir as you like.

I tried it as instructed, and it was so good: first the sweet cream, then the pleasantly bitter coffee coming through.

I’m really into con panna these days~

Most con pannas I’ve had so far used beans with almost no acidity, but this one used beans with noticeable acidity, which made it feel unique.

The Kkeomeong Latte is a black sesame latte—nutty and sweet!

My husband, who doesn’t really like sweet things, said it was delicious after just a few sips of the Kkeomeong Latte..

But with desserts, everything felt sweet—both the drink and the desserts—so next time he said he’d get an Americano.

Everyone’s tastes are different~ I liked the sweetness :)

The caramel pudding ended up being all mine!

The buttery butter bar was full of aroma, and the langue de chat (which people say tastes like a fancy Couque D’asse) was also delicious.

Even with just two people, it’s nice to try a variety of desserts—set menus are great.
