On the way home after passing through Songdang-ri village, I stopped by Sangumburi. Sangumburi is a very long-established attraction—developed in the early 1980s—and it’s still visited by many people today. Because it’s been around for so long, for younger visitors it’s known as a silver grass hotspot; for those in their middle years, it brings back memories of honeymoon trips in their youth; and for locals, it’s a place filled with memories of picnics and school trips.

Sangumburi is one of the ultimate spots that signals the arrival of autumn in Jeju. In Jeju’s fall, silver grass is something you can see almost anywhere with a short drive, but the silver grass at Sangumburi is more than enough to leave you with a lifetime photo.

In this season of crisp skies and hearty appetites, the sky feels higher, and beneath it spreads a silvery sea of silver grass—an unforgettable spectacle. When the wind blows, watching the silver grass sway in a group dance can make you lose track of time.

In Jeju, famous silver grass spots include Sangumburi, Saebyeol Oreum, and Darabi Oreum. These days, Akeun Darangshi Oreum and Geum Oreum have also become new must-visit places for many travelers—but Sangumburi is especially prized for the luminous silver grass glowing in the sunset light draped across Hallasan near dusk.
