Seoubu Agricultural Technology Center, Jeju’s Secret Garden Welcomed by Deepening Cockscombs

Jeju is a place where all kinds of flowers bloom in different spots with every season, and this fall we visited Seoubu Agricultural Technology Center, where deepening cockscombs and cosmos were in full bloom.

Located in Hallim-eup, this is an agricultural education and research institution where various activities are carried out to promote the development of local agriculture. With well-maintained seasonal flower displays and landscaped gardens, it is known as a pleasant place for locals and visitors to take a walk and enjoy nature. In spring and autumn, flower fields and photo spots are set up to enjoy the beautiful scenery, and various events and hands-on programs related to Jeju agriculture are also offered. It is a great place to spend a relaxing time in a tranquil atmosphere while taking in the nature of western Jeju.

Seoubu Agricultural Technology Center is located in Hallim-eup, Jeju City, and serves as a technology research center for agricultural development. For farmers, it’s a place to receive technical training and rent equipment, but it also has a nature learning area, themed exhibition halls, and resting spaces. That’s why kids come for hands-on learning, locals drop by for a casual walk, and travelers visit to take photos.

As soon as we stepped inside Seoubu Agricultural Technology Center, a wide cosmos field came into view. Different seasonal flowers bloom throughout the year: in spring, cherry blossoms and buckwheat flowers; in summer, hydrangeas and cockscombs; and in fall, even deeper-hued cockscombs and cosmos.

After circling the cosmos field, we walked toward the nature learning area. From somewhere, the long-reaching, sweet fragrance of fragrant olive (silver osmanthus) tickled our noses.

Savoring the feel of fall as the persimmons ripened on the branches, we arrived at a small garden next to the nature learning area.

Brilliantly colored cockscombs were impossible to resist.

Cockscombs take on deeper color as the nighttime temperature drops. With their many shapes and shades, they’re said to have a wide range of meanings in the language of flowers—and to be used for various purposes as well.

In the cockscomb field, whose colors deepen as fall arrives, we took beautiful photos with Jeju’s blue sky and made another autumn memory on the island.
