Fail-Proof Tips for Halla-san’s Snowy Scenery!

Top winter Halla-san snow-view routes are Yeongsil (Witseoreum 3.7km, entry restricted from 12:00; two parking lots), Eorimok (4.7km; steep from the start, 12:00 restriction), and Eoseungsaengak (about 1 hour round trip; entry allowed until 16:00). Bring gear like crampons and gaiters.

Here’s a collection of must-run-to spots in Jeju on snowy days❄️

Yeongsil Trail

Travel
Hallasan Yeongsil Trail226 Yeongsil-ro, Seogwipo-si

One of the 대표 trails in Hallasan National Park, this course is best known for the majestic Byeongpungbawi rock formation and its wide-open ridgeline views. The Yeongsil course to Witseoreum is relatively short at about 3.7 km, but with an early stair section and steady slopes, it still offers a light yet satisfying hike. With distinct seasonal scenery—spring azaleas, lush green ridges in summer, autumn foliage, and snowy winter landscapes—each visit feels different. At present, the Yeongsil course does not connect directly to the Baeknokdam summit; hiking is allowed only up to Witseoreum, and the trail is operated as a no-reservation entry course. A must-do trekking route for travelers who want to experience Hallasan’s overwhelming scenery in a comparatively short time.

✔️Winter season (Nov–Feb): hiking available from 06:00 /
Yeongsil Trail entrance: entry restricted from 12:00
✔️From the ticket office parking lot to Witseoreum: 6.2km, about 2 hours 10 minutes
✔️From the trail entrance to Witseoreum: 3.7km, about 1 hour 30 minutes

The first place I ever saw Halla-san’s snowy scenery was the Yeongsil course.
It was so moving I can’t even put it into words,
so I go hiking on Halla-san every winter.

Yeongsil has two parking lots:
the ticket office parking lot and the trail entrance parking lot.
They’re about 2.5km apart, around a 40-minute walk.
The trail entrance lot has very limited space, so it’s hard to park even on normal days,
and after it snows, the uphill road itself is often controlled for vehicles,
so you may need to park at the ticket office lot.

Eorimok Trail

Hallasan Eorimok Trail2070-61, 1100-ro, Jeju-si

One of the 대표 trails in Hallasan National Park, this popular course lets you enjoy dense forest paths and sweeping alpine meadow scenery. Starting with a gentle slope, it’s a relatively easy walk for most visitors. Along the route leading to Witseoreum, you can discover different charms of Hallasan each season—spring azaleas, lush green meadows in summer, autumn foliage and silver grass, and snowy winter landscapes. With both rich natural ecology and open panoramic views, it’s widely regarded as one of Jeju’s 대표 trekking destinations.

✔️Winter season (Nov–Feb): hiking available from 06:00 /
Eorimok Trail entrance: entry restricted from 12:00
✔️To Witseoreum: 4.7km, about 2 hours

The Eorimok course starts with a steep climb right away.
For about 2.5km, it’s basically steep the whole time.
It’s shorter than Seongpanak and Gwaneumsa, so
if you assume it’ll be easy and jump in, you might be in for a surprise..
I underestimated it too, and almost felt like my hip was going to pop out.
Make sure you warm up before you start~

Once the brutal uphill section is over, it feels like you’re being rewarded for all that effort~
A snowfield unfolds right in front of you and you can’t help but cheer.
From Sajebidongsan, it’s truly endless snowy scenery—completely mesmerizing.

Eoseungsaengak

Located near the entrance to the Eorimok Trail on Hallasan, this oreum offers a short round-trip course of about 1 hour where you can take in Hallasan’s majestic scenery. Follow the lush forest path up to the summit observatory, where you’ll get sweeping views of Hallasan’s ridgeline, Jeju City, and even the west coast of Jeju. The trail is relatively gentle and well maintained, making it an easy climb for beginners and families, and the scenery changes beautifully with each season. If climbing Hallasan feels like too much, this is a recommended route to experience its charms in a lighter way.

✔️Winter season (Nov–Feb): hiking available from 06:00 /
Trail entrance: entry restricted from 16:00
✔️To the summit: 1.3km, about 30 minutes

A great option if you want to see Halla-san’s snowy scenery but a long course feels like too much,
or if you don’t have much time in your travel itinerary.
It’s a Halla-san course you can do in about an hour round trip.
Unlike Yeongsil and Eorimok, which restrict entry at 12:00,
you can enter until 16:00, so it’s also great for a quick afternoon hike.

✨What to bring✨
1. Definitely bring crampons!
2. Gaiters are a must, too.
3. Hiking poles are nice to have.

⭐️Halla-san info⭐️
