Jeju Island has the most media art exhibition venues in Korea. Here’s an introduction to the media art spots you can enjoy in Jeju.

1. Arte Museum

Arte Museum is Korea’s largest media art exhibition venue. On your first visit, you might feel a bit disappointed by its factory-like exterior, but once you step inside, it’s so spectacular you’ll find yourself saying “wow” again and again. Under the theme of “Eternal Nature,” the strong visuals paired with sensory sound make the experience even more immersive.

Living up to its reputation as the largest in Korea, it’s divided into 11 themes, making it the place where you can see the widest variety of works.

2. Bunker de Lumières

Bunker de Lumières was the first media art exhibition venue to open in Jeju. Since it was created by remodeling an underground bunker that used to be a communications facility, even the space itself feels like a work of art. It’s famous for showcasing works by great masters—Klimt in its first year, Van Gogh the next, and now works by Monet, Renoir, and Chagall are on display. 

Because it’s presented as a single-theme show, it’s great to pick a spot somewhere in the venue, sit down, and simply take in the masterpieces. 

3. You Are My Muse

You Are My Muse is an exhibition venue that many people don’t know about because it doesn’t do much promotion. It showcases works by four masters: Klimt, Degas, Van Gogh, and Matisse.

Along with dynamic media art, it also features media art in a more gallery-like exhibition format, with a wide range of themes—personally, I felt the overall quality and completeness were very high. 

4. Forest Media Art

Forest Media Art is a media art exhibition inside the Museum of Contemporary Art located in Jeoji Artist Village, and it’s the only one you can visit for free. The cute, compact space is curated around themes of healing and art—and since it’s not a place many tourists seek out, it’s a great spot to enjoy quietly on your own. 

It’s even better if you explore it together with nearby spots like the Kim Chang-yeul Museum and the Museum of Contemporary Art.

5. Nohyeong Supermarket

Nohyeong Supermarket is the newest media art exhibition venue. It’s the biggest and most grand, so the immersion is great. But from the very start of the visit, an odd, preachy storyline/worldbuilding can make some visitors frown. If you prefer a huge, spectacular screening hall more than fine art, it’s worth checking out.
