My Secret Rainy-Day Hideaway: Chajip Jian

Chajip Jian in Yusuam-ri, Aewol-eup, Jeju-si—an ideal spot to visit on a rainy day. Enjoy a wide range of teas with no time limit, including pu’er tea brought in from China, plus black, oolong, and white teas, while listening to explanations at the tea bar.

It’s raining again today. When it rains, I have my own little routines that I always end up doing.

The forest’s scent grows deeper in the rain

When it rains, I wake up early, pull on my rain gear, and head into the woods. Listening to the rich forest aroma and the rain’s soundtrack often brings a sense of calm. And there’s one more thing: I stop by a favorite tea house, watching rainwater trail down the window as I drink tea.

A warm cup of tea that carries your 마음

In Yusuam-ri, Aewol-eup, up in Jeju’s mid-mountain area, there’s a small village with a tea house I visit often.

You can taste authentic Chinese pu’er tea that the owner personally sources directly from China.

There are different seats to suit different tastes, but I often sit at what the owner calls the tea bar. In the quiet space, I like being able to chat about this and that and hear explanations about the teas.

Best of all, if you pay a flat rate, you can drink a variety of teas with no time limit.

The owner, whose hometown is Yusuam Village, is brimming with passion and truly traditional in the world of tea—so much so that they even earned a tea certification in China.

Teas brought in directly from China. They say the taste and aroma differ by region. From everyday pu’er to premium pu’er, there’s also black tea, oolong tea, white tea, and more—plenty of variety.

The shop displays antique tea wares collected over time, and some pieces are also for sale. Aside from that, there are moments when the owner introduces the tea wares one by one or lets you try them. It’s fascinating—depending on the piece, the texture of the water stream feels different, and the tea’s flavor changes too.

Then, out of the blue, the owner said that fresh matcha had just come in and brought it out.

In a unique twist, they started whisking the matcha, then served it with a chilled wagashi as “ice.” - The aroma was deep, and the tea was thick and rich.

With fragrant aromas and warm 마음 passing back and forth, we lingered for a long time—chatting and enjoying tea.

This is a space dedicated to tea culture, different from typical coffee-centered cafes. It specializes in a wide range of teas, including pu-erh, and offers tea omakase, tea classes, and tea ceremony experiences so you can explore tea’s aroma and flavors in depth. With a calm, neat atmosphere, it’s a great place to spend an unhurried break, and it’s designed to be comfortable even for those new to tea. If you want to slow down for a while during your Jeju trip and enjoy a special tea time, it’s well worth a visit.
