When rain appears in the forecast during a trip to Jeju, plans for the sea and oreum are usually the first to be disrupted. Still, spending the entire day at your accommodation would be a shame. Take the change in weather as an opportunity to visit exhibition halls and greenhouses you might normally pass by. Choose whichever of the eastern, western, or Seogwipo areas is closest to where you are staying, and you can enjoy a rewarding half-day.
Where should you go on a rainy day?
Seongsan·Samdal Bunker des Lumières → Kim Young Gap Gallery Dumoak
Jeoji Jeju Museum of Contemporary Art → Kim Tschang-Yeul Museum of Art, plus the Itami Jun Museum if it suits your interests
Jungmun Yeomiji Botanical Garden greenhouse → Teddy Bear Museum
East | Fill your day with light and photography in Seongsan and Samdal
If you encounter rain in eastern Jeju, Bunker des Lumières is a good place to consider first. On a gray day outside, there is something especially enjoyable about viewing an exhibition filled with light and music indoors. As of September 2026, the current feature-length exhibition is “Van Gogh, Starry Night.” Programs may change, so check the official page for the current exhibition before visiting.

Continue to Kim Young Gap Gallery Dumoak in Samdal-ri, and the pace of your trip will shift. After leaving behind the dazzling visuals, you can spend time standing before photographs that linger over Jeju’s scenery. If the rain is heavy, there is no need to push yourself to explore the outdoor garden; simply stay in the exhibition halls. Although both places are in eastern Jeju, their contrasting characters make each one even more memorable.
West | Two art museums in Jeoji—or three if you want more

If you are in western Jeju, Jeoji Artist Village is a convenient choice. View the day’s special exhibition at the Jeju Museum of Contemporary Art, then continue to the nearby Jeju Provincial Kim Tschang-Yeul Museum of Art. The two are close together, so getting around on a rainy day is relatively easy. If an exhibition appeals to you, it is better to spend plenty of time in one place rather than rushing on to the next destination.

If you enjoy architecture, add the Itami Jun Museum to your route. It offers an experience of both the building and its exhibition spaces, providing a different way to appreciate space after viewing paintings. However, fitting all three places into half a day may feel rushed, so it is best to plan on two and add the third only if time allows.
Seogwipo | A greenhouse and museum side by side in Jungmun

In Jungmun, the greenhouse at Yeomiji Botanical Garden is a reliable option. Even when it is difficult to stroll through the outdoor gardens, you can still walk through the indoor botanical garden. Unlike the overcast view beyond the windows, the greenhouse is filled with greenery, and you may briefly forget that rain caused you to change your plans.

Next, head to the nearby Teddy Bear Museum. Because the visit involves walking through a series of exhibitions, it works especially well for an itinerary with children. Both attractions also have outdoor spaces, but on days of heavy rain, focus on the indoor exhibits and keep travel between buildings brief.
Check before you leave
Rather than trying to cover all three areas in one day, choose the one closest to your accommodation. Exhibition changes, closing days, and final admission times vary by venue, so checking official information on the day can help you avoid a wasted trip. An umbrella is useful when moving between venues, and a dry pair of socks can be surprisingly helpful on the way back.
In Jeju, rain is less a sign that your itinerary is over than an invitation to change the scene for the day. Spend some time in front of artworks instead of the sea, or inside a greenhouse instead of on an oreum, and your day can still feel thoroughly Jeju.
