It is hard to talk about autumn in Jeju without mentioning silver grass. But do you really need to climb all the way to the top of an oreum just to see its shimmering silver scenery? You can spot it through the car window, step out for a short walk, or stroll a little farther with the sea in view if the mood takes you. This selection of silver grass landscapes lets you choose according to your preferences rather than your stamina.
Choose your spot first
For views while driving, choose Geumbaekjo-ro. For close-up photos with silver grass, visit Eoeum-ri. To get a light taste of an oreum’s atmosphere, head to the entrance to Keunsaseumi Oreum. To enjoy the sea as well, try the entrance to the Songaksan Trail.
Silver grass flowing past the car window on Geumbaekjo-ro
The easiest option is to head into the eastern mid-mountain area. Along Geumbaekjo-ro near Songdang and Susan-ri, silver grass comes into view as you drive. This is not a road where the trip begins only after you arrive at your destination; the journey itself becomes part of the autumn scenery. If you are on a stretch where it is difficult to stop, do not risk it just for a photo. Simply enjoying the view while driving safely is enough to appreciate the charm of this road.

If you are staying around Aewol, consider exploring the Eoeum-ri area. The silver grass spreading across the fields feels quite different from the grass along an oreum ridge. Whenever the wind passes through, the shimmering silver waves move together. The atmosphere changes even in the same spot as the sun dips lower in the afternoon, so instead of rushing around, take a moment to stand and wait.
Eoeum-ri is less a place where you visit one designated viewpoint and leave than somewhere to take in the surrounding scenery at a leisurely pace. Check which roads and parking spaces are accessible on site, and avoid entering farmland or pastures.
No need to reach the summit at the entrance to Keunsaseumi Oreum

Keunsaseumi Oreum in Gasi-ri, Pyoseon, also known as Daeroksan, is not somewhere you must climb all the way to the top to see silver grass. Autumn colors begin to appear across the hills from the entrance. Even a short walk to feel the breeze before turning back is rewarding. On days when hiking is not the goal, it can be more relaxing not to decide your walking distance in advance.
Sea and silver grass in one view on the Songaksan Trail

If your itinerary takes you to southwestern Jeju, the Songaksan Trail is a good fit. Rather than viewing the scenery only through a car window, this is an option for a short walk with the sea beside you. There is no need to complete the entire trail. Take in the view from the entrance and walk only as far as you like. Access to the summit area and summit trail is currently restricted, so follow the signs and use the perimeter trail.
Small tips for enjoying autumn silver grass
Silver grass is generally at its fullest from mid-October to early November. Its texture appears more distinct as the sun begins to set. The mid-mountain area can be windy, so bring a light jacket and use designated parking spaces instead of stopping by the roadside.
Rather than trying to visit all four places in one day, it is better to choose just one or two that suit your accommodation and route for the day. When you briefly step out because the scenery passing by your car window feels too beautiful to leave behind, you may realize that autumn in Jeju is closer than you thought.
